Browse through these FAQs to find answers to commonly raised questions regarding the Orbiloc Outdoor Dual. If you have general questions to our products, please go to our support FAQ page.
Is the light really 5 km/3 mi visible?
The 5 km/3 mi visibility of the Orbiloc Safety Light is based on a calculation that takes into regard factors such as:
- The ability of the human eye to perceive certain colours
- The threshold of light perception by the human eye
- How much the light intensity decreases with distance
- The weather conditions
In real world applications, factors such as obstacles, the angle at which you look at the light, the battery capacity and even the curvature of the earth will normally make it impossible to see the light from 5 km/3 mi distance.Yet, the specification is still useful to compare the visibility of the Orbiloc Safety Light with the visibility of other lights. See more about the colour technology here.
Does the light tolerate salt water?
Yes, the light does tolerate salt water – even up to 100 meters depth. Please make sure, however, to rinse the light with fresh water while turning the Mode Selector Ring after the light was exposed to salt water. Please also refer to our blogpost: How to take care of your Orbiloc light after exposure to saltwater.
How can I register my light for the warranty?
You can read about the warranty and register your light here.
Is the light rechargeable/can I use rechargeable batteries?
No, the Orbiloc Safety Light is not rechargeable by default. However, you can use rechargeable LIR2032 batteries.
When using two LIR2032 batteries the three battery springs in the base must be bent approx. 1 mm upwards to ensure flawless contact with the batteries. Please refer to our User Manual page 11 for advice.

Note: Orbiloc can only guarantee the 5 km/3 mi visibility and the 100–250 h battery life when you use the original Orbiloc Battery Pack included in the Orbiloc Service Kit.

The Orbiloc Outdoor Dual Safety Light is designed to perform well in foggy or misty conditions. The light is made with a powerful LED that can be seen from up to 5 kilometers distance, and the light’s unique lens design helps to distribute the light and increase visibility in all directions.
Can the light be used in activities such as kayaking or canoeing?

The light is completely waterproof and submersible up to 100 meters, making it an excellent choice for water-based activities. The light’s compact size and easy attachment options make it convenient to use on kayaks, canoes, or other watercraft.
How durable is the light against bumps or falls, as may occur during activities such as mountain biking or rock climbing?

Should I be considerate of what colours of safety lights I use on my canoe?
Yes, it’s important to consider the colours of the safety lights you use on your canoe. General navigation rules state that a white light be displayed when underway between sunset and sunrise or during periods of reduced visibility.
In addition, some jurisdictions may require that red and green lights be used to indicate the port and starboard sides of the canoe, respectively. Using safety lights of the appropriate colours and brightness can help ensure that other vessels can see the canoe and avoid collisions or other accidents, especially in areas of high boating traffic or in low-light conditions.
Are there regulations for safety lights on bicycles?
In many jurisdictions, bicycles are required to have a white front light and a red rear light or reflector when riding at night or in low-light conditions. Some areas may also require that these lights meet specific brightness requirements or be visible from certain distances.
Do hikers and campers need safety lights?
While there may not be specific requirements for safety lights when hiking and camping, it’s always a good idea to bring a safety with you when venturing out into the wilderness.
Light can increase your visibility to others, including other campers, hikers, and even wildlife. This can be especially helpful when camping in areas with low visibility, such as forests or near water sources.
Additionally, the Orbiloc Outdoor Dual is designed to be durable and withstand harsh outdoor environments, making it an ideal choice for camping. The light is waterproof and impact-resistant, which means that it can survive falls, bumps, and even heavy rain.
Another benefit of using a safety light such as the Orbiloc Outdoor Dual is that it can help prevent accidents and injuries. You can reduce the risk of being accidentally bumped into or tripping over obstacles in low-light conditions by making yourself or a tent more visible to others. This can be especially important when hiking or walking around the campsite at night.
Furthermore, the Orbiloc Outdoor Dual can be easily attached to your camping gear, such as backpacks, tents, or even your clothing, making it a convenient and versatile safety tool to have on your camping trip.
Are safety lights necessary when hunting?
Orbiloc Outdoor Dual Safety Light can be a valuable tool for hunters to increase their visibility and safety while hunting in low-light conditions. One of the main benefits of the Orbiloc Outdoor Dual Safety Light is that it can be attached to hunting gear or clothing, making it easy for hunters to wear and use.
When hunting in low-light conditions, visibility is critical. The Orbiloc Outdoor Dual Safety Light provides hunters with a powerful and durable light source that can be seen from a distance, helping them to stay visible to other hunters and avoid accidents. In addition, the light’s red colour can help hunters to preserve their night vision, making it easier to see their surroundings and identify targets.
Another benefit of the Orbiloc Outdoor Dual Safety Light is that it can be attached to hunting dogs, increasing their visibility and reducing the risk of accidental shootings. Hunting dogs are often difficult to see in low-light conditions, making it challenging for hunters to keep track of their movements. By attaching the safety light to the dog’s collar or harness, hunters can easily spot their location and avoid mistaking them for prey.
The Orbiloc Outdoor Dual Safety Light is also durable and resistant to harsh outdoor conditions, making it ideal for hunting activities. It can withstand bumps, falls, and extreme weather conditions, ensuring that hunters can rely on it for many hunting seasons to come.
Are safety lights required for skiing and snowboarding?
In some areas, skiers and snowboarders are required to wear reflective clothing or carry a safety light when skiing at night or in low-light conditions. These lights can help other skiers and snowboarders see you on the slopes and avoid collisions.
In the event of an emergency, a safety light can be a valuable signaling tool. The Orbiloc Outdoor Dual Safety Light has a flashing mode that can be used to signal for help if you become lost or injured on the slopes.
Can you attach a safety light to a life vest?
Yes, it is possible to attach a safety light to a life vest. Some life vests come equipped with built-in safety lights, but you can also attach a light to your life vest using various methods such as clips or straps (see our assortment here). However, it’s important to ensure that any attachments or modifications you make to your life vest do not violate any regulations or guidelines in your area. Additionally, it’s crucial to ensure that the light attachment does not interfere with the life vest’s function or restrict your movement in any way.
