Which colour should I choose?
You can choose a colour based on your personal preference, what matches your running gear or based on the conditions you typically find yourself in.
Here are a few general insights:
- Red light disturbs your night vision less than other light colours which makes it great if run in groups where your fellow runners might look into the light.
- Yellow light is more visible than other light colours in cloudy and overcast conditions.
- In areas with lots of ambient light (e.g., traffic lights and light poles) it can be an advantage to choose a colour that stands out, such as purple, pink or even blue.
Read more about the colours here.
Is the Orbiloc Run Dual really 5 km/3 mi visible?
The 5 km/3 mi visibility of the Orbiloc Safety Light is based on a calculation that takes into regard factors such as:
- The ability of the human eye to perceive certain colours
- The threshold of light perception by the human eye
- How much the light intensity decreases with distance
- The weather conditions
In real world applications, factors such as obstacles, the angle at which you look at the light, the battery capacity and even the curvature of the earth will normally make it impossible to see the light from 5 km/3 mi distance.
Yet, the specification is still useful to compare the visibility of the Orbiloc Safety Light with the visibility of other lights. See more about the colour technology here.
Does the Orbiloc Run Dual tolerate salt water?
Yes, the light does tolerate salt water – even up to 100 meters depth. Please make sure, however, to rinse the light with fresh water while turning the Mode Selector Ring after the light was exposed to salt water. Please also refer to our blogpost: How to take care of your Orbiloc light after exposure to saltwater.
How can I register my Orbiloc Run Dual for the warranty?
You can read about the warranty and register your light here.
Is the Orbiloc Run Dual rechargeable/can I use rechargeable batteries?
No, the Orbiloc Safety Light is not rechargeable by default. However, you can use rechargeable LIR2032 batteries.
When using two LIR2032 batteries the three battery springs in the base must be bent approx. 1 mm upwards to ensure flawless contact with the batteries. Furthermore make sure that both batteries are inserted with the + symbol facing down.

Note: Orbiloc can only guarantee the 5 km/3 mi visibility and the 100–250 h battery life when you use the original Orbiloc Battery Pack included in the Orbiloc Service Kit.
Can the Orbiloc Run Dual Safety Light easily be attached to my running gear or clothing?
Yes, the Orbiloc Run Dual light is designed to be easily attached to your running gear or clothing. The light is mounted with the Orbiloc Clip that allows you to clip it onto your clothes, shoes, or gear. Furthermore the included Orbiloc Armband provides a secure and convenient way to attach your Orbiloc running light to your arm or leg. The mounts are also designed to be secure and stay in place while you are running, so you don’t have to worry about the light falling off or shifting around. Additionally, the light is lightweight and compact, making it easy to carry with you on your runs without weighing you down.
Are there any specific safety guidelines for using safety lights while running in larger groups?
Running in groups can be a fun and motivating way to stay active, but it’s important to prioritize safety and visibility, especially when running in low-light conditions. One effective way to increase visibility while running in a group is to use safety lights. Many running groups opt to use a white safety light in front of the first runner and a red safety light in the back for the last runner.
The safety lights can help other runners, cyclists, and motorists to see the group from front and behind. However, it’s important to ensure that the lights are positioned in a way that does not blind or distract other runners or motorists. Additionally, make sure that the lights are bright enough to be seen but not so bright that they are distracting or annoying to others. See our colour recommendations here.
Can the Orbiloc Run Dual Safety Light be used in all weather conditions?
Yes, the Orbiloc Run Dual Safety Light is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures. The safety light is waterproof and shock-resistant, making it suitable for outdoor running and other activities. However, it’s important to check the safety light for any signs of damage or wear and tear before each use, especially if it has been exposed to extreme weather conditions. See how you best Prolong the lifespan of your Orbiloc light.
Can the Orbiloc Run Dual Safety Light be used for triathlons or other multi-sport activities?
Yes, the Orbiloc Run Dual Safety Light is an excellent option for triathletes and other athletes who participate in multi-sport activities. The lightweight and compact design make it easy to wear during each stage of the race, from the swim to the bike and the run.
The Orbiloc Run Dual Safety Light is a powerful tool to increase visibility and safety during outdoor activities, particularly in low-light conditions. By wearing the Orbiloc Run Dual Safety Light during your race, you can stay safe and visible, regardless of the lighting or weather conditions.
Where should I position my Orbiloc Run Dual Safety Light when wearing it on my arm?
We recommend placing the safety light on the arm that faces traffic. This allows motorists and other athletes to easily see you from a distance and avoid accidents or collisions.
It is also possible to wear two safety lights on the same armband for increased visibility and safety.
Should I use safety lights or reflective gear when running at night?
It’s recommended to use both safety lights and reflective gear for maximum visibility and safety. While reflective gear can reflect light from sources such as headlights, it’s not always enough to make you visible from a distance. Safety lights like the Orbiloc Run Dual Safety Light, on the other hand, emit light themselves and can be seen from a greater distance.
Can I use the Orbiloc Run Dual Safety Light instead of reflective gear?
We recommend to use both safety lights and reflective gear. The reflective gear will reflect light from other sources such as headlights, while the safety light will actively emit light and make you more visible from a greater distance.
