Avoid corrosion with proper rinsing

Seawater contains salt. This may be an obvious statement, but you’d be surprised at how many people forget that saltwater causes corrosion in most materials – and the Orbiloc light is no exception. If you fail to rinse the light adequately after exposure to saltwater, it can lead to corrosion or rusting, which can ultimately damage the light. To prevent this from happening, make sure to rinse your Orbiloc light with fresh water immediately after use in saltwater.

Minimize expanding salt crystals

If potential corrosion isn’t enough to convince you to rinse your Orbiloc light then perhaps salt crystals are. When saltwater evaporates, it leaves behind salt crystals that can expand and break the seal between the light’s O-ring and circuit board, leading to unexpected malfunctions. Furthermore, saltwater would also leave unrinsed straps, such as the Orbiloc Adjustable Strap or Orbiloc Rubber Strap brittle and more susceptible to cracks, rips and tears. To avoid this, rinse your Orbiloc light and the accessories with fresh water and make sure to remove all salt residue.

Get rid of sand, dirt and other debris

While rinsing your Orbiloc light immediately after being exposed to freshwater is not critical, we still recommend rinsing it thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris that may have accumulated. This will help prevent the buildup of microorganisms and algae that can settle on your equipment and ultimately damage it. So, make sure to rinse your light after each use to keep it in top condition.

Keep your Orbiloc light in top condition for all your future adventures

Taking good care of your gear not only ensures its longevity but also has environmental benefits. By maintaining and rinsing your Orbiloc light after use, you’re reducing the need for frequent replacements, which ultimately reduces waste. So make sure to get into the habit of cleaning your Orbiloc light after every use to ensure it will be there for you during your many adventures to come.

By following these simple cleaning and maintenance tips, you can help prolong the lifespan of your Orbiloc light and prevent unexpected malfunctions. So, the next time you’ve been out on an adventure, make sure to rinse your light thoroughly and keep it in top condition.
